The MSC Virtuosa spans 331 metres in length and weighs 181,541 tonnes and has the capacity to carry over 6,300 passengers. Its visit brought the total number of cruise ships that have docked in the Port of Cork this year to 94, welcoming over 180,000 passengers along the way.

 

The cruise liner industry is estimated to contribute €70 million to the national economy and on average €14 million per year to local economies such as Cork.

This role will include all aspects of Marine Operative work within Dublin Port. Acting as a member of a multi-skilled team of Marine Operatives interacting with other groups who are interdependent on each working towards a common goal i.e., pilots, VTS, shipping desk etc. The role includes but is not limited to: pilot cutter coxswain/deck-hand, vessel positioning, responding to marine emergencies/pollution incidents, operating on all marine craft including all work vessels and driving port vehicles.

Hosted by Máire Éinniu of Údarás na Gaeltachta, the list includes Catriona Power (Circular Bioeconomy Cluster), John Browne (De Brun Iasc Teo), Tim Yeomans (Shannon ABC), and Deirdre Wall (Brandon Bioscience). The event is set to take place on the 20 October at the Rose Hotel venue in Tralee, and will revolve around key topics driving growth and diversification in the blue bioeconomy.

The European Commission has announced the 26 projects from 12 Member States that will receive funding to install alternative fuels infrastructure along the trans-European transport network (TEN-T). The funding totals some €352 million in EU grants from the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF), under the umbrella of Connecting Europe Facility, with additional capital from financial institutions to increase the impact of investment.

IMO regularly updates appropriate UNFCCC bodies and meetings on its action to address GHG emissions from international shipping.

Following a request from the Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC), IMO has submitted the 2023 IMO Strategy on reduction of GHG emissions from ships to the First Global Stocktake (GST).
