The EALING Project will hold its Final Event in one week, on November 29, 2023, in Valencia, Spain. The Irish Maritime Development Office (IMDO) will attend the flagship EALING project final event supporting Irish ports.
The EALING Final Event aims to showcase the latest developments in Onshore Power Supply to identify challenges and opportunities ahead. During the event, the results of technical, environmental, regulatory and financial studies in the project will be presented and discussed, alongside debates and roundtables focused on international OPS success cases and decarbonisation strategies. Ports actively involved in EALING will bring concrete experiences and lessons learned to pave the way to OPS adoption in the EU with the ambitious goal of enabling a more competitive and sustainable TEN-T Maritime Network.
The acronym EALING stands for European flagship Action for coLd ironING ports, and hinges on the fact that the electrification of maritime transport is a key challenge to move towards a more competitive and sustainable Trans-European Network for Transport (TEN-T) Maritime Network in the future.
Emissions reduction at the ship-port interface is one of the key drivers to reach the IMO 2030 and 2050 decarbonisation goals and to face the key challenges of the EU Green Deal. Regulatory, technical, operational and economic actions to reduce GHG emissions are required to move towards a lower-carbon future.
Those interested can find the draft agenda for the final project event here.
EALING Project background
The EALING Project is a 36-months-long Connecting Europe Facility project, with the aim of proposing a common EU harmonised and interoperable framework for the transition to electrification for at least 16 EU maritime ports in different sea basins (Mediterranean, Black Sea and Atlantic Sea).
These pilot sites for the studies define the technical, legal and regulatory framework to accelerate the implementation of OPS solutions. These studies are in turn the first phase of the EALING Project, which aims to accelerate the effective deployment of OPS solutions in the EU maritime ports, including the Action “EALING Works Valencia port” and a further phase to implement at least 30 installations in at least 16 EU ports of the Consortium.
