Job Vacancy: Deputy Harbour Master at the Port of Waterford
The Port of Waterford is seeking to recruit a Deputy Harbour Master
The Port of Waterford (POW) is the cargo gateway to Ireland’s South East Region.
It is Ireland’s closest multi-modal port to continental Europe, is connected by road and rail to a national transport system that can get goods to their destination in a prompt and efficient manner.
The Port of Waterford is now seeking to recruit a Deputy Harbour Master.
In general, the successful applicant will support the Harbour Master in in the day to day running of all marine aspects of port operations. This will include, vessel movement planning, pilotage, port security, emergency response, liaison with ships agents and ensuring the timely provision of all services required for the safe handling of all vessels. The post holder will also deputise for the Harbour Master as required and will assume the role of Port Facility Security Officer and Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor. Applicants ideally should hold a valid STCW 95 II/2 (Masters unlimited) certificate of competency (or equivalent) with three years seagoing experience as Master or Chief Officer. A lesser STCW qualification may be acceptable provided the candidate has at least three years’ experience as Harbour Master, Deputy Harbour Master, Assistant Harbour Master or has held another relevant shore side role. Applicants will need to demonstrate that they are able to lead, motivate and manage effectively, with proven and effective interpersonal skills. Excellent communications and computer skills with an ability to work effectively under pressure are essential.
The post is primarily based at the POW offices at Belview Port and the job holder will be required to work on call and out of hours on regular occasions. In return we offer a competitive salary, which includes a contributory pension scheme.
