Waterborne TP: Open Consultation on update of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport
The Co-Programmed Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) was established with the aim to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission solutions for waterborne transport and to support the transition to a carbon-neutral and zero-pollution waterborne transport system in Europe.

In June of 2021 the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) for the Partnership on Zero-Emission Waterborne Transport (ZEWT) was published. SRIA publication was preceded by a two-month open Consultation during summer of 2020, which provided feedback that was incorporated in the final version of the document.
The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, the Fit for 55 Package, introduction of new measures at the level of the IMO, and NAIADES3 are key policy developments which provide a clear objective towards zero-emission waterborne transport. A number of relevant EU policies are being updated, including the Renewable Energy Directive, the FuelEU Maritime Regulation, revisions of the Energy Taxation Directive, the Deployment of Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation and the EU Emissions Trading System, mostly through the ‘Fit for 55 package’.
The first bi-annual update of the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda of the ZEWT Partnership has been initiated and all interested stakeholders are invited to contribute to this Open Consultation. This is the first round of the consultations which aims at collecting input on the RD&I need’s in the scope of the ZEWT Partnership, reflecting the new socio-economic, policy and regulatory situation.
This is a starting point for revision of the SRIA (following a first round of internal feedback), and now it does not include yet an outlook for the WP 2025-2027. Data from the projects supported under WP 2021-2024 is currently being collected. The strategic part will be updated in the next version of the SRIA.
