The National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) is the country's designated centre for the education and training of personnel for the Merchant Marine, the college offers a comprehensive range of training and education courses to get any individual off to the right start with their career at sea.

The NMCI offers a wide range of degree courses which suits the skills and requirements of both school leavers and those with experience of working aboard merchant ships or fishing vessels. The NMCI is also an accredited training centre for OIPTO, SEFtec and GAC industry courses, these courses pave the way for individuals to attain industry specific qualifications and training for the off-shore and oil & gas industries. 

Located in Ringaskiddy Co.Cork,  the college provides education and training for the merchant marine and the non-military needs of the Irish Naval Service. The NMCI campus itself is a state-of-the-art in terms of college facilities and technology. The college had dedicated specialist spaces for all students undertaking education and training courses. These include sea survival simulation in the College’s indoor pool, seamanship and shipwrights’ workshops, fire-fighting/damage control, jetty and lifeboat facilities and engine room are all used as part of the overall tuition programme for sutdents. The College also provides specialist simulation equipment in the areas of navigation, bridge training, communications, engineering-machinery operations, liquid cargo handling/damage control and vessel traffic systems. These facilities fully comply with the most up to date international standards and requirements. A multipurpose hall and sporting facilities are also included in the college.

As well as theoretical studies, students gain practical experience in safety, personal survival, first aid and fire-fighting. All students train with experienced seafarers at the NMCI and aboard merchant vessels worldwide. Whether your choice is Nautical Science or Marine Engineering, students will experience the most modern resources in the world of seafarer training at the NMCI. The college also has a wide array of facilities such as a hall for indoor sports, a fully equipped gym and a gym instructor who is available to design fitness programmes.
