In all, the volumes recorded in Q3 2023 are slightly below trend for the Irish RoRo market, whereby the long term trajectory of volumes are roughly 300,000 units per quarter. Passing 1.2m RoRo units for the full year, as was achieved in 2022, is now unlikely, but shipping operators and ports will be hopeful that the busy months of October and November can recoup some of the losses from this year.

Dublin Port Company (DPC) has announced the opening of T4, a newly redeveloped RoRo freight terminal in the Port costing €127m, which was officially launched today by the Minister of State, Jack Chambers, TD.

Self-financed by DPC and delivered on time, and on budget, T4 marks a major milestone in the delivery of the ABR Project, the first of three major capital development projects under its Masterplan to futureproof Dublin Port’s cargo handling capacity to 2040.

This is a unique opportunity for individuals, with a marine background, to work with the statutory body who maintain the aids to navigation, including offshore lighthouses and buoys, all around the Irish coast. 

As an Able Seafarer your duties will include shipboard maintenance, mooring operations, watch keeping and operating deck machinery.  You will also work with cranes, winches, workboats and helicopter operations.   

You will need a valid STCW II/5 Able Seafarer Deck Certificate of Competency and supporting STCW certificates as follows:
