Dublin Port are Hiring a Technical Supervisor (Electrical)

Dublin Port is the busiest port in the country with 15,000 annual vessel movements handling almost 50% of all trade for the Republic of Ireland. Dublin Port Company (DPC) is a State-owned commercial company responsible for operating and developing Dublin Port.

Role Context and Description:

The Technical Supervisor (Electrical) role is a key role within the Engineering Services structure, leading and motivating a team of experienced and highly skilled crafts specialists. The role reports directly to the Technical Manager and is responsible for ensuring the effective monitoring and maintenance of all DPC owned electrical infrastructure across the Port estate, including but not limited to; Low & Medium Voltage Distribution Systems, PLC’s, SCADA systems, HMI Systems, High Mast & Street Lighting, Ro-Ro Ramps, Passenger Gangway; Marine Vessels, Pumping Stations, in Ireland’s Largest port to always ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Port.

This role will work closely with the Technical Manager and the wider Engineering Services Team, providing technical expertise, support services, efficiencies and continuous improvement initiatives and ideas to maintain and improve all applicable electrical system assets across the Port Estate.

Key Responsibilities:

Task & People Supervision

  • Supervising and allocating work via the CMMS for the carrying out of planned and reactive maintenance and inspection works of DPC assets. This also includes managing time and attendance of DPC employees under direct supervision and ensuring the appropriate records are maintained.
  • Contractor Management including scheduling and allocating planned and reactive maintenance works with third party contractors.
  • Liaising with DPC internal customers, third party terminal operators and other relevant stakeholders to schedule works to ensure the works can be carried out safely around their operations.
  • Working with DPC’s Maintenance Planning Engineer to ensure all relevant assets are located, identified, recorded in the CMMS and appropriate maintenance routines are established and are being performed.
  • Promoting teamworking and high quality and standards of work.
  • Continuously monitor and review the performance of the team and individual team members.

Environmental, Health & Safety

  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies. This includes conducting and documenting regular safety inspections, identifying potential hazards, developing and implementing safety procedures and training staff.

Sustainability

  • Partaking in sustainability projects to help Dublin Port achieve Net Zero, where electrification is being used to decarbonise both our own and our tenants/licensees operations.

Technical

  • Lead up critical asset inspections and health checks of systems, ensuring minimum KPI achievement and availability targets of assets are met.

Budgeting

  • To partake in annual capital planning and expense budgeting processes, including ongoing cost management.

Project Handover

  • Working with DPC functions, particularly the Programme Management Office (PMO) to ensure all critical assets developed are handed over and that processes and procedures are in place to ensure appropriate maintenance and inspection routines are established.

Documentation & Record Keeping

  • Ensure accurate records of all electrical work carried out are retained, including but not limited to schematics/drawings, maintenance logs, inspection reports etc.
  • Manage the customer electricity metering and rebilling process for third party users in Dublin Port, including the setting up of new meters, meter reading requirements and monthly recharging for all third party electricity use.

General

  • Commitment to on-going change is essential and continuous input to the continuous use development and optimisation of the CMMS and other relevant systems is expected.
  • Liaising with regulators, state agencies, utility providers and tenants is essential to fulfilling the role
  • Ensuring all relevant procurement follows DPC’s Procurement Policy
  • Perform system and administrative work to ensure that the scheduling of work is done in a timely and efficient way in collaboration with other functions within DPC and provide timely and accurate reports on works, as required
  • Development of technical specifications for procurement of framework contract services

 

Qualifications, experience and required skills

Must have:

  • Time served electrical trade with current qualification approved by CRU (QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate Craft or Equivalent)
  • Relevant (5-10 years) experience working as a fully qualified electrician in a heavy industrial environment with competence in low and medium voltage distributions systems

An advantage but not essential:

  • Previous Team Lead/Supervisor experience.
  • Proven people management skills, knowledge and experience including managing conflict, performance and development.
  • Health & Safety qualification.
  • Supervisory Management qualification.
  • Industrial hydraulics and rotating equipment experience.
  • High-level diagnostic and problem-solving skills in an industrial environment.
  • Mechanical and electrical process control systems with experience in an industrial environment.
  • PLC’s and industrial communications protocols.
  • SCADA process control systems for process and fault diagnosis.
  • Variable Speed Drives.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ATEX equipment and working in hazardous areas.
  • High level of proficiency in information systems e.g., Microsoft Office, Computerised Maintenance Management Systems, Health & Safety Systems.
