Thu, 06/15/2023 - 01:11 /

Workshop proposals are open for Sea Tech Week, to be held from October 15-17 2024 in Brest, France. This biennial and international event is dedicated to marine and maritime science and technology; its 14th edition will be Maritime Safety and Security, and its featured country will be Ireland. The deadline for workshop proposal submissions is October 20 2023.

Those invited to submit include but are not limited to higher education institutions, research centres, companies, public bodies, clusters or associations, members of the Campus mondial de la mer community, as well as national, European and international organisations. Potential topics for submissions include cybersecurity, environment, marine and underwater navigation, data issue, space observation, regulations.

Sea Tech Week is organised by Technopôle Brest-Iroise through Campus mondial de la mer, of which it is the flagship event. It attracts top local and international experts, and touches on a variety of ocean-related disciplines, like maritime cybersecurity, offshore energy, government action at sea, regulation, migration, and drones. Its 2022 event brought together 1,200 professionals to discuss its featured topic, ‘Maritime transport, towards smarter & greener solutions’, and honouring its featured country, India.

The upcoming edition of the event is set to feature 3 high-level plenary sessions, 30 workshops, 50 exhibitors, BtoB meetings, and a receptive programme. “This international week of marine science and technology has become the essential meeting place for the scientific community and companies that imagine the maritime innovations of tomorrow, thus contributing to the knowledge and preservation of our ocean,” states a Sea Tech Week press release of the event.

Ireland is set to be the country of honour, marking the first time a European Union member will be featured for the event. The venue, a newly-renovated Le Quartz conference centre, will be decorated in the colours of the Irish flag for the occasion.

“Ireland, a country known for its culture of innovation and its dynamism in hosting technology companies and startups,” states the event. “The country is also home to many research and development centres in areas such as marine energy, digital technologies, marine biotechnology, marine engineering, marine science, etc.”

The call for workshop proposals was presented through the European Maritime Days (EMD) conference, also held in Brest, on May 24 2023. According to the press release, around thirty Irish representatives came to this year’s edition of the EMD. This yearly event provides an interactive experience where ocean leaders can exchange about a variety of issues within the blue economy, the marine environment, and future initiatives.
